Junior 2nd Round Interview
29th June 2010
Q.
First set was very straightforward. Second one was a bit of a test,
wasn't it?
LAURA ROBSON: Yeah. I think it's always hard to keep up that kind of
level that I was playing in the first set. I think I only lost eight
points. It was always going to be tougher in the second set. I think she
loosened up, made a lot more balls.
You know, she played much better tennis. So it was good to get through
that.

You must be fairly pleased with that? Certainly gave her a run for her
money in the second set.
LAURA ROBSON: Uhm, yeah. You know, she could have won the second set 6‑3
because I was 5‑3 down. But I fought back. You know, I thought I could
have done a bit more in the rally, especially in the tiebreak, you know,
just try to be more aggressive.
But she's No. 4 in the world for a reason so... She played well.

everything.

comeback.
LAURA ROBSON: I was a bit disappointed with the way I
played in the first set anyway. And then second set, you
know, she served really well the whole match. I was just
looking for a chance to break her. I finally got one. In
the tiebreak I let myself down a bit.
But, you know, I've had a really good month in

Laura out of Australian
Open
15th January 2010
Laura's Australian Open dream
is over after she lost 4-6 6-7 to #18 seed Michaella Krajicek of the
Netherlands in the 2nd round of qualifying.
It took some time for both the players to settle in to the match, as
both lost their opening service games. Laura was the early
aggressor, with Krajicek scrambling to defend and counter-punch. With
scores level at 4-4, Krajicek made her move, changing her tactics on
break point and chipping a second-serve return that forced Laura into
error. Laura continued to go for her shots at crucial times, and
produced a special passing shot to save one set point. Krajicek steadied
on the next point though, serving at Laura’s body to take the first set
6-4.
Laura’s serve was immediately tested in the first game of the second set
as Krajicek sensed an opportunity to pounce after Laura opted for a
medical timeout for treatment for a left shoulder complaint. What
followed was an epic game where Laura saved nine break points before
hitting the ball into the net on Krajicek’s tenth break point
opportunity. A pair of Krajicek double-faults in the next game
immediately gave the break back to Laura. Laura looked like
hitting her stride late in the second set as she held comfortably in the
crucial ninth game, threatening to take the match to a decider.
Instead, Krajicek fought hard to force a tie-break, and eventually
overcame Laura’s aggressive shot-making to prevail 9-7. |

minutes on Court 6.
After the win Laura said: “I can't remember the last time I played like
that. It was really windy, and I obviously didn't play my best tennis.
But I hung in there and stayed consistent. Throughout the match my
service games weren't solid at all, so I tried to give myself the best
chance to break her."
Laura talked about playing Hopman Cup last week: "I
loved Hopman Cup, it was so (much) fun. I gained a lot of confidence from that, especially
beating (Maria Jose Martinez) Sanchez in the final,
and it’s good to know I’m not being outclassed in
the seniors.”

Laura misses spot in US
Open main draw
29th August 2009
Laura
battled to get into the main draw at the US Open but it wasn't enough as
she was knocked out of the final round of qualifying by Eva Hrdinova of
the Czech Republic 6-7 6-4 6-7 in a match time of 3 hours and 11
minutes.
The first set was played on Friday which Laura lost 7-6 but the remnants
of Tropical storm Danny stopped anymore play and the match was resumed
on Saturday. Laura came out firing by taking the 2nd set 6-4.
Laura raced into a 4-0 lead in the 3rd set but she couldn't clinch the 2
games she needed for the victory and Hrdinova eventually won the long
fought match in a tie-break 7-4.
Here is what Laura said after the match: “I don’t know what I was
thinking out there. It got to the point where I forgot to keep
breathing. It’s pretty hard to play tennis when you can’t breathe. I was
lucky enough to get a wildcard into qualifying here and so I’m glad it
happened in qualies now rather than in two years’ time in the main draw.
It’s all about experience (and) dealing with nerves is something I have
to get used to. The first two matches were good and it was really
fun, a really good experience. The third set today wasn’t that
fun...well, half of it was.”
Laura will play the junior event here which will begin next week. |

“We don’t know exactly what the problem is yet but hopefully we will
find out in the next couple of days, it was a bit of a spasm but I

Laura's Wimbledon
doubles campaign over
26th June 2009

was a tough assignment against the #16 seeds Svetlana Kuznetsova of
Russia and Amelie Mauresmo of France who have a combined total of 4
Grand Slam singles titles. Laura and Georgie Stoop were knocked
out of the doubles event at Wimbledon after they lost 3-6 4-6 in the 2nd
round in 65 minutes.

took the first set on their third set point in front of a
packed Court 12 but the British pair hit back in the second
set. They broke

Laura and Stoop get the
win in doubles
24th June 2009
There
was drama on Court 1 in Laura's 1st round doubles match in the evening.
The match went right down to the wire but Laura and Georgie Stoop came
through as they defeated the British duo of Jade Curtis and Anna Smith 6-4 3-6 13-11
in 3 hours and 1 minute. The 3rd set alone took 1 hour and 46
minutes.
Along the way to 13-11 in the final set, there were match points for
Laura and Stoop in the 12th and 14th games. Curtis served for the match
in the 20th after Laura lost her service to love. Laura immediately
redeemed herself with a demon forehand down the line, followed up by a
two-handed backhand volley at the net to help win the break-back to
level the match.
In the 24th game, Curtis/Smith saved another match point, before a lucky
net cord from the baseline created another. Realising the enormity of
the timing, Stoop apologised not only to her opponents, but to the
crowd. She then made an excellent intercept for the victory.
In the 2nd round, Laura and Stoop have tough draw as they will face the
#16 seeds Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia and Amelie Mauresmo of France. |

1st Round Interview
22nd June 2009
Q. Do you feel more disappointed than pleased with
yourself?
LAURA ROBSON: Uhm, yeah. I'm a bit ‑‑ I'm just a little bit
upset, but I'm pretty proud of myself. I mean, I thought I
played really, really good for a good part of the match, and
then in the end just a couple things let me down a bit.
But, yeah, I thought I played a good match.
Q. Were you really sort of going for your second serve
today?
LAURA ROBSON: Uhm, I wasn't thinking that I was going for it,
but it just wasn't as consistent as it usually is. That probably
had something to do with the whole atmosphere and all the nerves
and everything.

Laura Robson prepared
for the heightened pressure of playing at Wimbledon
9th June 2009
Laura
Robson says she is "just going to have to deal with" the heightened
public expectation she expects to encounter at Wimbledon after she was
given a wild-card entry into the women's singles. The 15-year-old won
last year's girls' title, but is ranked 485th in the world as a senior.
She was given a wild card into the senior tournament on the basis of her
No1 status in the juniors and her performance at Wimbledon last year.
"From the sounds of it, there is going to be quite a lot of pressure on
me," Robson said. "I don't know what I am going to do but all I can do
is go on court and try my best. Win or lose, if I have tried my best
then I cannot be unhappy."

Australian Open final
Interview
31st January 2009
Q.
Are you having fun?
LAURA ROBSON: Yeah.
Q. A little bit of a
disappointment, wasn't it?
LAURA ROBSON: I think generally she won because she played more
consistent than me. So it's definitely disappointing to lose, but I
thought I played as well as I could have.
Q. She's ranked 150
or something in the women's game. Do you think that was a big difference
in how experienced she was as well?
LAURA ROBSON: Well, I've played some senior matches as well. Maybe
experience wasn't the key factor, but definitely her consistency was.
